Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear polymer with the chemical formula (C3H5NO)n. It is a hard glassy solid at room temperature, and the products include glue, latex and white powder, translucent beads and flakes. Thermal stability is good. Can be dissolved in water in any proportion, the aqueous solution is a uniform transparent liquid. The viscosity of the solution will decrease after long-term storage due to the slow degradation of the polymer, especially when the storage and transport conditions are poor. As a lubricant, suspending agent, clay stabiliser, oil repellent, water loss reduction agent and thickener, polyacrylamide is widely used in drilling, acidification, fracturing, water plugging, well cementing and secondary and tertiary oil recovery, and it is a kind of extremely important oilfield chemicals.

Difference between polyacrylamide emulsion and solid
1, different forms: solid polyacrylamide is a dry powder or granular solid material, while polyacrylamide emulsion is a liquid emulsion.
2, the content is different: solid polyacrylamide content can generally reach more than 90%, emulsion polyacrylamide content is generally below 50%. Solid polyacrylamide dissolution time is relatively long, easy to cause dust pollution, but the transport cost of solid polyacrylamide than emulsion polyacrylamide is much lower. Solid polyacrylamide, easy to store, transport is more convenient, shelf life of about two years, the storage cycle is longer than the emulsion. The effective content is high, so the price ratio will be higher. Because it is a solid product, the manufacturing process does not need to be too dry.
3, stability is different: emulsion polyacrylamide is a solid particles by dissolving a viscous liquid formed after dissolving in water, which is in the form of emulsion form. Emulsion manufacturing process does not need to go through the drying of this link; emulsion polypropylene dissolution speed is relatively fast, only about 15 minutes to be able to dissolve. Storage temperature is moderate, stored in the environment of 30 ℃ up and down no problem, while being able to save for half a year.
4, the application range is different: solid polyacrylamide applies to a wider range of applications, while the polyacrylamide emulsion is only applicable to some of the water treatment occasions, such as municipal sludge treatment, alumina industry, sand washing and other industries.
5. Different flocculation effect: from the flocculation effect, emulsion-type polyacrylamide flocculation effect relative to the solid to be better, emulsion-type polyacrylamide is more convenient to use, clean, shorter dissolution time. But the molecular weight of emulsion type polyacrylamide is far less high than dry powder polyacrylamide.
6. Different solubility: polyacrylamide emulsion has better solubility than polyacrylamide solid, which can combine with the pollutants in the wastewater faster and form flocs, so as to improve the purification effect.
